Matthews discovered to his chagrin today that he has a calendar wrist watch listing 31 days for this month.

This was called to his attention as he was setting Nov. 31 as the date for continuance of a case involving the open burning of garbage by the City of Hoboken. Judge Matthews laughed and said he would have to warn two other judges who purchased similar watches. Lt. Thomas A.

Quinn A Quiet Man Who Got His Point Across Lt. Thomas A. Quinn was described as a "quiet SO quiet that you often didn't know he was in the room, yet he ran for Bayonne city commission in 1959 and as a write-in candidate for congressman in the 13th Congressional district in 1960. His son, Thomas Jr. an FBI agent in the Newark office comA mented on the incongruity of a quiet, self-affacing politician: 'HE HAD definite views which he wanted to express and he had to overcome his natural quietness to do so.

"My father didn't talk much but when he did, he got the point across. When he said something it was remembered." Lt. Quinn was born in Jersey City and his parents, Martin and Catherine, moved to Bayonne when he was an infant. HE ATTENDED St. Andrew's School and St.

Peter's Prep on an academic scholarship. He graduated from St. Peter's College with a degree in accounting and went to work for B. J. Cowan Tax Consultants for 'many years.

He worked for a time with a brokerage firm in New York and then joined the Bayonne Police force in 1936. "Police work was entire life." his son said." In later years he liked to give encouragement to the younger members of the force, to lead the way a bit for them. 'HIS EXAMPLE was the reason I went into the FBI. My brother is planning to go into the military police when his tour in Vietnam Spec. 4 Keven Quinn, 19, was flown home from Vietnam when his father became ill.

Another son, Lawrence, 15, is a student at Bayonne High School; and a sister, Mrs. Judith Birtwistle also lives in Bayonne. FATHER was active in sports as a player-coach with the Arrows Athletic Club when he was young. He encouraged all of us to take part in scouting and organized sports. His influence resulted in all of us becoming avid outdoorsmen." Lt.

Quinn is also survived by his wife, the former Mary Hughes, whom he met when he first joined the police department and was assigned to direct traffic on her route home from Bayonne High School. They married two years later. Lt. Quinn died Monday at Bayonne Hospital. The funeral was held today from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Bayonne.

Przygocki By WALTER WISNIEWSKI Dull, leaden sorrow was the atmosphere last night at the conclusion of the three-day wake for Lt. Stanley P. Przygocki. Standing wanly- near the casket in Chapel A at McLaughlin's Funeral Home, the Jersey City widow, the former policeman's, and their eldest son, John, shook the hands of hundreds of mourners and acknowledged sympathies. Visitors streamed through the parlor all during the evening, the cascade of flowers passing, offerings before the bier, which was flanked by United States and police department flags.

Most stopped to kneel and whisper a short prayer. THE PRINCIPAL TRIBUTE was made by the massed mernbers of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association, Jersey City local, the Original Monkey Club, a social club of St. Michael's R.C. Church, and the church's Holy Name Society. "Nearly a hundred men crowded the parlor as they followed the Holy Name Society moderator, Rev.

John A. Kelly, in the rosary. Afterwards, state Attorney General Arthur J. Sills, on his way to a Democratic fund-raisdinner, stopped to pay his respects. "When tragedy hits, the only ones who have to live with it day of their lives are the every members of the policeman's family," Sills observed.

ABOUT THE appreciation fund begun for Lt. Przygocki's family, Sills said "This is what the good citizens have to do. It's a small enough endeavor on part, but small as it is, their, least they can do." In the thickly-carpeted corrithe dor and smoking lounge of the funeral home, the visiting policemen chatted quietly, often turning to the topic of how well they were spreading their fundraising campaign. White- gloved officers stood an honor guard at the parlor entrance, switching each half hour. Their mourning insignia was a Convention Nov.
